Making Leaders

"I would be the last person in the world to get up and read a paper in front of a group.  Theresa Francis said to me, you don’t have to be nervous:  they’re all friends.  So I got up and did.  So another meeting came along, about Hamilton Park.  And I had written a little bit about the homeless.  That is what I was supposed to read.  So there I am reading, and again I’m still nervous.  But she got me to do it."

-    Woman from NVP member organization

"From the start, the point was not that I was going to call up the President of this corporation, but you were going to do it and if you hadn’t done it before, we were going to walk through how you were going to do it.  I think it’s that sort of opportunity for people to grow and stretch that keeps people coming."

    - Ken Galdston

"We always would have a preparatory meeting with Ken Galdston and talk about strategies for how we were going to present things, what we wanted to accomplish at the meeting.  And then we would go into the meeting and afterwards you would have a debriefing on how things went and what we would do for follow-up."
